PANCHAKARMA IN KITIBHA, MANDALA AND PSORIASIS (SKIN DISORDERS)
Skin diseases carry a heavy global burden of morbidity and psychosocial impact. Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease affecting roughly 2–3% of adults in many populations. Ayurveda groups chronic skin disorders under Kushtha, with Kitibha and Mandala being two commonly discussed varieties. Kitibha is frequently correlated with psoriasis, while Mandala corresponds to well-demarcated circular lesions seen in several dermatoses. This review summarises the classical description of these disorders, the Panchakarma approach based on repeated Shodhana (Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Raktamokshana), supportive internal medicines, the contemporary understanding of psoriasis and the evidence available. Evidence from rigorous trials is scarce, and Panchakarma should currently be considered an adjunct that is supervised by qualified practitioners and integrated with dermatological care.
